We are a group of creative and talented individuals looking to direct our passion for craft beer and community into a thriving destination brewery with a relaxed, comfortable, and family friendly atmosphere. Everyone is welcome, including the dogs! Sweeten Creek Brewing hopes to build a destination for beer enthusiasts while contributing to the surrounding community and industry while creating an environment that non craft beer enthusiasts can also appreciate with our delicious beers, cozy tasting room, outdoor stage, 2 sand volleyball courts, outdoor beer shack and 8000 sqft fenced in dog park! As of October 2021, Bears Smokehouse BBQ has made themselves a permanent home in our taproom. With this addition, a door for specialized food and beer pairings, beer release parties and so much more has opened up. We hope to work together to continue creating a cozy, home away from home, atmosphere for our guests.
The History of Asheville
Before European settlement, Asheville was part of the Cherokee Nation. Bearing the name Untokiasdiyi, meaning “Where they race,” the Cherokee people used the area as a gathering place.
Settlement didn’t occur until after the Revolutionary War, in 1784, when Colonel Samuel Davidson and his family arrived, claiming land through a soldier’s grant. The settlement, initially named “Morristown,” was later renamed Asheville in honor of North Carolina Governor Samuel Ashe.
Asheville became an important outpost in the Blue Ridge Mountains, attracting famous travelers like Daniel Boone and Davy Crockett. The city flourished during the railway boom into the 1920s but faced a significant setback during the stock market crash of 1929. However, thanks to a committed urban renewal plan and efforts to maintain the city’s charm, Asheville transformed into the vibrant culture hub it is today.
